Anna Protano-Biggs

As a Tennessee attorney and community advocate, Anna worked on numerous innovative efforts in Chattanooga to build resiliency, bring lasting social change, and transform the way community sees and treats people most affected by mental illness.  

Anna previously founded and led the Hamilton County’s Mental Health Court. She also worked for a decade as a public defender in Hamilton County. She has a proven track record in cross-sector collaboration, relationship building and advancing social change through intentional systems planning focused on equity. Anna is the winner of the 2017 National Association of Social Workers Tennessee Chapter Public Official of the Year Award and, in 2019, was named one of Chattanooga’s 20 Under 40 by the Chattanooga Times Free Press. She is a graduate of the Chattanooga Area Chamber Leadership Chattanooga class of 2021.  

Anna is originally from England and Italy and moved to the Scenic City in 2008. She and her husband, Jeremy, live in Chattanooga with their four sons and two dogs.
